Are You Crazy?

Last weekend at an NHRA drag racing event in Las Vegas, I was speaking with a 230mph Nitro Harley driver in the staging lanes. For context, his motorcycle goes from 0–200mph+ in a ¼ mile. He asked me where else I serve, and I mentioned that I really enjoy salt flat racing in Utah. Laughing, he said to me, “those guys are crazy!” Apparently, crazy is in the eye of the beholder.

Crazy! Think about that—a guy riding a nitro-powered motorcycle at over 200 mph calling someone else crazy. We all have our own perspective on what is dangerous and what is crazy.

When I accepted Christ as my Savior in June 2010, some friends—and some family members too—thought I was crazy. Non-believers thought I had fallen off the deep end. In truth, I fell off the earthly life and landed on the heavenly life. Knowing God produces peace and contentment. Knowing God at every turn in life intensifies your spiritual reality. Knowing God builds faith that He’s engineering your circumstances.

Crazy is a relative term. We’d be crazy to turn down an offer to better ourselves. A chance to drive or play for the best team in sports or racing would be a no-brainer. A chance for eternal life is also a no-brainer when the offer is placed right in front of us.

To some, it may sound crazy that God is present in every corner of your life—in the expected and unexpected, in the mundane and the extraordinary.

It may sound crazy, but God’s Word is more precious than any earthly possession you have. The Bible lights our path as we head down the track of life with our eyes on the eternal finish line. It’s like following a trustworthy—but faster—driver than you. Why wouldn’t you?

The Bible tells us something crazy: it took one night to get Israel out of Egypt, but it took forty years to get Egypt out of Israel. In other words, it is crazy to look back on our old life expecting it to be the best way to go. Many people are always looking back. The finish line is when you put your life in drive, not in reverse.

Racers don’t win by staring in the rearview mirror—they win by focusing on what’s ahead. Don’t lose focus on what the Lord has in store for you. God blesses forward spiritual progress.

Strapping into a racing machine may seem crazy, but the driver knows the thrill. It takes a different mindset—maybe a little crazy—to take risks in life. But isn’t it even more crazy to not follow the truth of God’s revelation right in front of you?
